Introduction
The City of Stevens Point Community Development Department promotes a safe, diverse, and vibrant community, and enhances the living, working and recreation choices for community residents and visitors.
Position Summary
The Director serves as the department head for the Department of Community Development as well as the Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Stevens Point. Responsibilities include overseeing staff and programs within the department’s six core divisions: Economic Development, Historic Preservation, Neighborhood Improvement, Permits and Inspections, Planning and Zoning, and Property Assessment. The Director also serves as the lead economic development promotor for the City. Furthermore, the Director is the lead staff member to the Plan Commission, Redevelopment Authority, as well as other boards, commissions, committees, and Common Council for items pertaining to the Department. The Director also serves as a community advisor to the Portage County Business Council.
The Director must be familiar with planning and economic development implementation tools such as redevelopment, tax incremental financing districts, development agreements, sustainability, annexation, subdivision regulations, and grant programs.
Tasks Routinely Performed
Prepares and presents reports to various boards, commissions, committees, and Common Council for items pertaining to the Department.
Analyzes and develops policies and recommendations on all community development related matters before the city.
Works to grow existing businesses and attract new businesses to the city.
Creates and/or oversee the creation of short- and long-term planning documents, and the implementation of them.
Drafts grant applications and monitors grant awards for compliance.
Oversees the administration of the building and safety codes.
Attends meetings, including evening meetings.
Salary Information
The starting salary is $115,731 with annual step progression based on longevity and performance, plus excellent benefits.
