The American Diabetes Association has an excellent opportunity for a National Vice President of Philanthropic Giving. This position can be remote/home based but must live near a major airport.
This individual will be responsible for directing a team of four Individual Giving and Foundation Officers in leading the strategy and cultivation of major and principal gift efforts. This individual is responsible for driving results on a campaign goal of $10 million through major gifts. In addition to leading their team, this individual will manage their own portfolio, including the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of individual and foundation donors with seven+ figure giving capacity.
In addition to achieving financial goals, the National VP of Philanthropic Giving will be measured on year-over-year pipeline development that demonstrates long-term, sustainable growth. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, they will serve as an active, present and engaged member of the ADA’s Development management/leadership team to implement vision through direct collaboration with the organization’s Executive Leadership Team.
Additional areas of focus include:
Serve as the organization’s Major Giving/Individual Giving expert at the National level.
Integrate subject matter expertise into existing trainings, strategy sessions, consulting services, and market meetings to equip other market leaders with the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to identify and cultivate a major giving culture.
Manage team of Individual and Foundations Officers remotely and through in-person visits, travelling approximately 25% of the time.
Lead and develop a culture of stewardship and cultivation that paths donors to give at their capacity.
Complete at least 40 face-to-face donor and prospective donor visits each fiscal year in order to develop and manage an individual portfolio of approximately 20 individual donors across the country with the ability to give $1 million or more.
Support and collaborate on the portfolios of the CEO, CDO, and collaborate with regional TVPs and Executive Directors, to shape a major giving culture and drive results.
Lead by example in the maintenance of accurate and timely records of all activities in donor database, reporting activity, trends, progress and results to CDO.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant experience.
Experience in fundraising or sales.
Experience with all areas of cultivation, solicitation and closing sales or fundraising.
Ability to collaborate with all levels of staff, prospects, volunteers and donors.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience working with complex donors or clients representing $1 million+ in revenue or philanthropy with proven fundraising or sales results at the six- and seven-figure level.
Experience focused on major gifts or large accounts, preferably supporting large scale research, policy and/or community issues.
Experience in identifying and developing complex major giving and/or engagement opportunities that align with organizational mission, goals and strategies at national and local levels.
Possess and consistently display sophisticated business acumen, exceptional conflict resolution and negotiation skills, effortless integrity, and an ability to recognize and align donor interest with organizational priorities.
Experience using donor relationship management software, such as CRM.
Ability to travel up to 25% local and overnight stay.
