This is a demanding role that requires significant practical Player union experience. The required competencies of the position include the following:


A strong personal and professional commitment to the objectives of World Players.
Strong bargaining and advocacy skills and experience.
Significant experience in organizing professional Players and conducting employer-focused campaigns and negotiations.
Strong communication, writing, presentation, and media skills.
Empathy with, and capacity to relate to, modern professional Players.
Strong leadership skills and organizational ability; honesty, integrity and trust;
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and work with colleagues in a purpose-driven values-based team environment.
The ability to think and plan strategically and administratively, as well as a track record in achieving targets.
The flexibility to deal with fast-moving events that require a response.
The flexibility to travel and commit time to the areas where our affiliates are situated – including in-person engagement and UNI connectivity.
A tangible understanding and experience across all domestic and international landscapes.
A minimum of eight years of experience with a Player union organization, at the national and international level, preferably in a senior leadership position within the World Players.
Experience working in multiple countries is an advantage.
Fluency in English, spoken and written, is essential. Knowledge and understanding of other languages are an advantage.
Professional qualifications in law, economics, industrial relations or a related field are an advantage.
The ability to adapt to irregular and unusual hours and strenuous travel commitments as well as management of the appropriate WPA staff.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


The position
The World Players Association (WPA) Executive Director is employed as the head of the WPA and reports to the Executive Committee, which consists of the world’s foremost Player Association leaders.


The Executive Director is responsible for leading World Players in the pursuit of its vision of championing Athlete rights in all aspects of the Athlete experience. As a result, the Executive Director is fundamentally responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the World Players’ comprehensive strategy as approved by the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities
Represent World Players and affiliates in international forums and negotiations on matters of common concern to affiliated Player Associations and its Players, including the governance of sport, collective bargaining and social dialogue, Player rights, integrity in sport, Player health and safety, Player development and well-being.
Position World Players as a respected and influential voice of the Players of the world with key global and regional bodies such as the United Nations, UNESCO, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and employers.
Promote best practice in the collective representation of professional Players including through the development and conduct of programs and the sharing of knowledge and resources.
Work with like minded bodies such as the groups comprising the labor movement.
Grow World Players through effective programming and engagement of new affiliates.
Develop, implement and monitor the strategic plan of the WPA as approved by the Executive Committee.
Professionally prepare for and lead key meetings of the WPA
Maintain proximate and responsive relations with all affiliated Player Associations.
Encourage the direct involvement of Players in the affairs and activities of the WPA.
Promote awareness, understanding and the influence of World Players through effective brand and communications activities, stakeholder relations and campaigns.
Effectively build, lead, manage and develop a dedicated and professional management Team.
Build the financial viability and, in time, financial independence of the WPA.
Develop and support opportunities associated with the commercialization of the name, image, and likeness rights of the WPA Player Associations and their members.
