Details: This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with a salary of $65,018.00, with generous family health insurance, employer retirement contribution, life insurance, and paid time off benefits including sick time, vacation time, personal time, and 10 paid holidays annually. This is a hybrid position that requires a combination of remote work and in-person attendance in metro Atlanta. The position is included in the employee bargaining unit. As a grassroots, membership-based organization, our members are affected by the issues we work on every day: low-wage jobs, the erosion of a social safety net, the lack of paid sick time and paid family leave, unemployment, and workplace discrimination. Our programs include grassroots organizing, leadership development and training, nonpartisan civic engagement and policy change campaigns. 9to5 Georgia seeks an experienced Organizer based in Atlanta, Georgia. This organizer will be responsible for organizing in Metro Atlanta at the intersection of paid leave and worker justice as part of 9to5’s broader objective of advocating for gender, racial and economic justice. We’re looking for an emerging leader in metro-Atlanta who is passionate about community organizing and economic justice. Ideal candidates are from and/or reside in Metro Atlanta or a surrounding county, have experience working with underserved communities and are looking to build their leadership in civic engagement and local advocacy. This position will also assist with voter registration and GOTV programs by connecting the need for paid leave with civic engagement. Position Summary: The Organizer will play a key role in implementing and managing organizing strategies for the Paid Leave campaign in Georgia, working closely with the Lead Organizer. This position is responsible for implementing base-building and leadership development programs, driving grassroots organizing for the campaign and the coalition, supporting coalition engagement, and contributing to achieving the campaign's strategic goals. The organizer will support the Lead Organizer by taking on delegated activities related to the Paid Leave campaign. This position requires a commitment to social justice and anti-oppression principles, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Key Responsibilities: Member/Leader Recruitment and Development (60-70% of time) Implement base building and membership development programs related to the Paid Leave campaign Manage single and multi-day membership trainings and programs, potentially including components of the Community Justice Fellowship Program (CJFP) or other leadership development initiatives Recruit and develop new members and leaders for the Paid Leave campaign, including conducting outreach, door-knocking, tabling, and conducting one-on-one meetings (1:1s) Turn out members for campaign activities, events, and legislative opportunities Identify and develop community leaders to engage in 9to5's work and the Paid Leave campaign Support and facilitate regular membership meetings and events Issue Campaigns, Coalitions, and External Partnerships Lead campaign organizing efforts for the Paid Leave campaign, including for 9to5 and the grassroots organizing arm of the coalition Implement the Paid Leave campaign plan with support from the Lead Organizer, Organizing Manager, and State Director. Support organizing efforts involving other partner groups Participate in coalition subcommittees and meetings related to the Paid Leave campaign Contribute to co-developing organizing strategy with other organizations in the coalition Revisit and continue partner 1:1s to understand capacities and power map coalition members by geography Support the planning and execution of coalition events, such as Paid Leave Coalition Strategy Sessions and after-session meet-ups for culture building Data Culture and Management: Enter data from outreach, recruitment, and organizing activities into the 9to5 membership database and other tracking systems Log meaningful activities and record participation in events and meetings Collaborate with data staff to integrate data into campaign planning and assessment Support research on data collection avenues to measure policy efficacy Communications: Coordinate with communications staff to collect and share member stories related to economic justice priorities, including paid leave Help prepare members to speak to the media Potentially serve as a spokesperson for local media or specific campaign aspects upon request Assist comms in the drafting of communications tools like fact sheets or digital assets related to the campaign External Workshops and Trainings: Potentially co-own or support workshops and presentations related to the Paid Leave campaign Help develop and deliver trainings for members and leaders on organizing skills and campaign needs Fundraising: Assist with grassroots fundraising events and donor/member recruitment activities Contribute information to grant proposals and reports upon request Participate in the annual year-end fundraising campaign Supervision, Hiring, & Organizational Development: Lead and manage canvassers Supervise volunteers or interns as needed Participate in hiring committees as requested Help with onboarding processes for temporary staff, interns, or volunteers Cross-Organizational Work Teams: Participate in or potentially co-lead relevant cross-organizational work teams when requested |
