The City of Florence is accepting applications for the position of Director of Community Development.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Administration Director-City Administrator, this role assumes administrative responsibility for overseeing and managing all aspects of community development activities, projects, and initiatives. This includes communication with city staff, external partners, and various stakeholders. The primary focus of this position is to aid in the planning, execution, and launch of projects, ensuring that project commitments are met.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Acts as the principal advisor to the Mayor, Administration Director-City Administrator, Florence City Council, and other officials regarding community development administration, providing them with quarterly development updates.
Manages a comprehensive business/community development program addressing issues related to annexation, housing, commercial, office, and industrial development.
Researches, evaluates, applies for, and administers grants for the City.
Attends Council meetings as required.
Represents the City to outside organizations and serves on various beneficial boards and committees.
Leads the development and implementation of the city's comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances.
Evaluates and recommends changes to land use policies and regulations to support the city's growth objectives.
Oversees zoning and land use applications, ensuring compliance with city codes and regulations.
Collaborates with local businesses and organizations to promote economic development and job creation.
Manages and oversees complex development projects from inception to completion.
Manages the City's Demolition Incentive Program.
Ensures compliance with zoning and building codes, environmental regulations, and other relevant requirements.
Engages with the community through public meetings, workshops, and communication initiatives to gather input and feedback on development projects.
Builds strong relationships with residents, businesses, and community organizations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Urban Planning or a closely related field, supplemented by at least five years progressively responsible experience in economic development or public administration, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively perform the duties of the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be bondable.
Must possess valid Driver’s License and remain insurable to operate City vehicles.
