Required Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
7-10+ years of experience in corporate communications, with at least 3 years in a leadership or director-level role.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with an ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
Proven experience in developing and executing communication strategies.
Ability to work closely with senior leadership and provide sound strategic advice.
Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
Familiarity with intranet platforms, internal social media tools, and employee engagement software.
Preferred Skills
Master’s degree in communications or a related field.
Experience in a global or multi-location organization.
Experience working in a remote environment.
Familiarity with employee engagement surveys and analytics.
Experience in change management and crisis communication is a plus.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a Director, Internal Communications to join our Communications team. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications, the Director will develop, manage, and implement internal communication strategies that align with the ADA’s mission, values, and goals. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent and clear messaging across all levels of the company, fostering employee engagement, enhancing organizational culture, and building an employer brand both internally and externally. The Internal Communications Director will work closely with senior leadership, human resources, and various departments to communicate key initiatives and updates.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development:
Develop and execute an internal communications strategy that aligns with business objectives and enhances employee engagement.
Establish clear communication processes and channels to ensure messages are delivered effectively and in a timely manner.
Develop content strategy and process for intranet, making the intranet a key information source for employees.
Create and implement employer brand strategy to build the brand internally and externally.
Content Creation & Distribution:
Write, edit, and distribute internal communications such as emails, newsletters, memos, executive messages, and intranet content.
Develop and oversee the creation of visual and multimedia content that enhances communication (videos, infographics, etc.)
Own and function as the MC for our monthly Town Hall series.
Executive Communication Support:
Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on internal communication needs and best practices.
Collaborate with executives to craft and deliver key messages, speeches, and presentations for internal events or announcements.
Employee Engagement & Culture:
Lead initiatives that promote and reinforce the organization's culture, values, and mission across all teams.
Design and execute employee engagement programs, surveys, and town halls to gather feedback and foster open communication.
Crisis and Change Management:
Act as a key player in crisis communication efforts, ensuring employees are kept informed and engaged during critical situations. Lead organization contact for Diabetes Disaster Response Coalition.
Lead internal communication efforts for organizational changes.
Measurement & Analysis:
Track and measure the effectiveness of internal communications initiatives, using metrics to make improvements and inform future strategy.
Provide regular reporting on employee engagement, communication reach, and feedback trends.
Collaboration:
Partner with HR, Marketing, and IT to ensure alignment of messages and efficient use of communication tools and platforms.
Work with cross-functional teams to ensure internal messaging aligns with external communications, brand voice, and corporate objectives.
Provide support, as needed, to other areas of the communications division.
Leadership & Culture:
Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
