Required Experience:

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, or a related field; fundraising certification/CFRE and/or master’s degree preferred.
Minimum seven (7) years of direct fundraising experience with a track record of successful fundraising strategies.
Previous work within/familiarity with the philanthropic/corporate giving community in South Carolina strongly preferred.
Strong leadership and management skills with experience building and leading teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and experience with budgeting and financial management.
Experience establishing community partnerships and increasing visibility.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
Experience with a donor database management systems preferred.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to be diplomatic and persuasive.
Upon hire, you must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
Must have personal transportation and the ability to drive; possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance meeting council insurance company’s requirement for coverage, and submit to a background search.

Girl Scouts of South Carolina – Mountains to Midlands council is the largest organization serving girls in South Carolina. The council has a current membership of close to 6,000 girls, more than 3,000 volunteers and a staff of 42 (plus an additional 30+ seasonally). Girl Scouting is the largest organization for girls in the world. Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. Through activities in S.T.E.M., Entrepreneurship, the Outdoors and Life Skills, Girl Scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem.


The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a member of the leadership team, leading the philanthropic fundraising efforts to enhance the financial stability and growth of the organization. The CAO is responsible for creating and communicating a compelling value proposition that leads to increased visibility, engagement and funding.

The CAO is responsible for executing a relationship-based strategy, designed to expand the donor pipeline; maintain and strengthen relationships with existing donors and increase visibility in and across the twenty-two counties of our council. In addition to managing a personal portfolio of donors, the CAO leads a team of professionals and collaborates across the council to meet and exceed fundraising goals. The CAO works closely with the Board of Directors and the CEO to secure major and visionary gifts for the council. The CAO will work across departments to understand business needs and ensure development and marketing are in operational alignment and trusted partners with every internal department.

Objectives/Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive advancement strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
Collaborate with the leadership team to set fundraising targets and accompanying marketing and engagement strategies.
Oversee all fundraising activities, including individual and major gifts, grants, corporate giving, government grants, United Way partnerships, and events, ensuring a diverse portfolio of donors that represent the communities served by the council.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
Develop and execute a robust donor stewardship program.
Lead and mentor the advancement team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
Recruit, train, and support staff in achieving fundraising goals.
Develop and manage the advancement budget, ensuring financial goals are met.
Analyze fundraising results and adjust strategies as necessary.
Lead the Marketing and Communications department to ensure increased visibility among stakeholders and alignment with advancement goals and organizational messaging.
Assists in the smooth functioning of the council by performing other duties as assigned.
