10+ years' experience in supporting organizational operations.
Minimum five years' experience in a senior management role ideally in a growth-oriented organization
Computer Skills: Proficiency Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word. Proficiency in Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by NAMI Chicago?

Office Location: 224 W. Hill St. Suite 410, Chicago, IL, 60610; required in-office minimum of 4 days per week (hybrid work policy subject to change).

Who We Are Looking For:?
The Chief Operating Officer supports NAMI Chicago’s mission by providing leadership around operations, partnerships, policy and programs. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO manages the planning and implementation of the operational infrastructure, overseeing finance, HR, systems, and overall operations. The ideal candidate has demonstrated strategic leadership ability, prior experience executing the operations of a non-profit organization, and leading a team with compassion and accountability.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and management to the organization in a way that reflects mission and vision.
Spearhead the planning and implementation of the operational infrastructure (systems, processes, personnel) to support our short and long-term growth strategies.
Oversee the finance function of the organization and support long-term financial sustainability planning.
Oversee the people function of the organization to support recruitment, development and retention of staff across the agency.
Act as a strategic partner on the executive leadership team for the overall management of the organization.
Support the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan.
Implements strategies for efficiencies across systems and procedures that benefit the overall operations of the organization.
Work autonomously while ensuring CEO expectations are readily met and exceeded.
Attend Board meetings, report on relevant topics and engage with Board members as needed, and liaise with assigned Board committees.
Represent the organization externally, whether it be with partners, the media, vendors or other stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the finance, HR and operations teams.
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance management process.
Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
Requirements:
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience either as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization; must be familiar with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations
Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance and administration initiatives.
Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, Board of Directors, and staff
