Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).
Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, development, and community engagement.
Strong strategic and critical thinking skills to evaluate and implement effective solutions.
Experience in donor relations, major gift solicitation, and fundraising campaign execution.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and corporate partners.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to serve as an ambassador for the organization.
Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting.
Commitment to the mission and values of Arlington Charities, with a passion for addressing food insecurity.
Ability to lead a team in a collaborative, results-driven environment.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to handle complex challenges.

About Arlington Charities

​​In 1978, members of the Arlington Ministerial Alliance decided that Arlington’s food insecurity issues needed to be addressed. Initially, volunteers collected food and distributed it out of car trunks. However, the demand was overwhelming. As a result, Arlington Charities was organized as a nonprofit in 1979. ​Arlington Charities is one of the oldest social service organizations in the city, and the city’s largest provider of supplemental food for people in need. ​Arlington Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping to stabilize families, individuals, and the homeless in Arlington.

Under the general direction of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director serves as the driving force behind Arlington Charities' mission, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to combat food insecurity and address its underlying causes. The CEO is crucial in expanding development efforts, strengthening community involvement, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. This leader will engage donors, partners, and stakeholders to enhance fundraising efforts, build awareness, and drive meaningful change in the community.

The CEO fosters strong relationships with the Board, staff, volunteers, and external partners to create and implement effective strategies. This position requires a highly visible leader who is deeply committed to community engagement and advocacy, ensuring that Arlington Charities remains a trusted resource for those in need.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement:

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to address food insecurity, focusing on immediate relief and long-term solutions.
Actively engage with community leaders, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations to build partnerships and strengthen Arlington Charities' impact.
Serve as a public advocate, increasing awareness of food insecurity issues and the organization’s role in addressing them.
Ensure that the organization’s mission, vision, and values align with the evolving needs of the community.
Development & Fundraising:

Working with Development Manager spearhead fundraising efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and government agencies.
Develop and execute a diversified development strategy, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and special events.
Strengthen donor engagement through personalized outreach and ongoing stewardship.
Oversee the development team to enhance fundraising initiatives and ensure donor retention.
Program Development & Management:

Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of food assistance programs, distribution initiatives, and community outreach efforts.
Ensure that all programs effectively address community needs and align with the organization’s strategic objectives.
Continuously assess and improve program effectiveness through impact measurement and reporting.
Advocacy & Public Relations:

Act as the primary spokesperson, representing Arlington Charities to government officials, media, and community stakeholders.
Build and maintain relationships with policymakers and advocacy groups to influence food security initiatives.
Develop communication strategies to raise public awareness and position the organization as a leader in food assistance.
Board Relations & Organizational Leadership:

Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates and strategic insights.
Support Board recruitment, development, and governance efforts to ensure strong organizational leadership.
Lead and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven culture.
Oversee the Development Team to maximize community engagement and fundraising success.
Financial & Operational Oversight:

Develop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and transparency.
Oversee financial planning, reporting, and compliance with nonprofit regulations.
Identify new revenue opportunities to support program growth and operational excellence.
