Qualifications
Knowledge: Must possess a broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising – able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
(1) Initiate contacts with potential donors.
(2) Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior leadership.
(3) Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
(4) Make solicitations when appropriate.
(5) Maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
Skills:
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are required.
Strong problem-solving, research, and analytical skills.
Excellent time management and follow-through.
Abilities:
Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to articulate the case for support so that individuals understand and connect with the vision/mission/goals of the Symphony and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.
Computer Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and online file sharing platforms such as Google Drive, Sheets, Docs.
Experience with donor databases and donor moves management.

Job Summary
The Major Gifts Officer plays a crucial role in crafting individual major gift proposals. To serve as part of a dynamic fundraising team collaborating with the broader philanthropic community in support of the mission and goals of The Phoenix Symphony.
Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with the President & CEO, Senior Vice-President and Chief Advancement Officer, VP of Development, and Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships to develop and execute strategies and plans to move individuals up the ladder of engagement, loyalty, and giving.
Responsible for a portfolio of 120-150 households giving at the $2,500+ level through all stages of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship totaling $1M - $2M annually.
Works with donors to craft personalized giving strategies, providing individual major gift proposals as appropriate.
Works collaboratively and strategically with other Development staff and key volunteers, as appropriate, to coordinate strategic and purposeful cultivation and solicitation activities.
Will be well informed of the Symphony’s strategic priorities and gift opportunities to best align with the interests of donors and prospective donors who have the capacity and inclination to support them.
Initiates contact and secures face-to-face cultivation and solicitation meetings with donors and prospects, including hosting donors at concerts.
Authors and/or edits funding proposals, consistent with Symphony protocols, to facilitate effective gift solicitations.
Continuously manages and updates portfolio activity in the AudienceView donor database.
Performs other responsibilities or assignments as needed, including weekend concert duty.
Recognize and nurture the full potential of staff and others by providing the needed resources, coaching, mentoring, opportunities, and support.
Establish a high level of professionalism and cooperation among the development staff and in collaboration with other departments at The Phoenix Symphony.
Engage Development staff to monitor donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to the board and senior leaders.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff to support their development.
