Required Experience:

Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, or related field preferred
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in donor communications, proposal development, or nonprofit fundraising
Demonstrated success developing persuasive, donor-centric content for major or midlevel gift audiences
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex initiatives into accessible donor language
Experience collaborating with frontline fundraisers and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); experience with Canva, InDesign, or similar design tools a plus
Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines
Familiarity with CRM systems (preferably Salesforce) and donor engagement strategies

We are excited to share the base pay range for this position is $81,000 to $117,000. The offered compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at LLS we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the current compensation of similarly situated roles and direct team members. Base compensation is only one component of our Total Rewards program, which also includes an annual incentive plan and a competitive benefits package.

Summary: The Director, Major Donor Communications is responsible for creating persuasive, donor-centric materials that support major and midlevel giving strategies across the organization. This role develops high-impact proposals, impact reports, and case materials that articulate the value of philanthropic investment in LLS’s mission. Working closely with Region Advancement Directors, the Director ensures communications are personalized, strategically aligned, and grounded in mission outcomes. The Director also maintains core messaging resources and collaborates with Mission and Constituent Experience teams to source compelling content. With a strong editorial eye and project management skills, this role plays a key part in inspiring donor engagement and advancing LLS’s revenue goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Proposal & Case Development
Develop, write, and produce compelling philanthropic proposals, concept notes, and cases for support targeting individual and foundation donors making six-figure gifts
Translate complex organizational priorities into clear, accessible, and persuasive donor-facing language that inspires philanthropic investment
Create templated proposal materials for customization by Region Advancement Directors, ensuring alignment with donor interests and LLS’s strategic goals
Maintain and regularly update a library of core proposal components, templates, and messaging guides to streamline production and ensure consistency

Donor Reporting & Impact Communication
Produce high-quality, tailored impact reports in collaboration with Stewardship, Mission, and Finance teams to showcase donor outcomes and reinforce intent
Partner with the Midlevel Giving team to develop content and materials that strengthen the donor pipeline to Major Gifts
Support stewardship and reporting efforts by ensuring timely and mission-aligned content delivery
Lead content development and review of donor correspondence from leadership, including acknowledgement, event invitation and follow up, and special outreach.
Editorial Quality & Project Management
Ensure all donor materials meet brand, tone, and visual identity standards, utilizing tools such as Canva or InDesign as needed
Track project timelines and manage workflows to support frontline fundraisers in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Uphold editorial consistency across donor communications while maintaining flexibility to meet the evolving needs of Advancement partners

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Content Gathering
Collaborate closely with Region Advancement Directors to understand individual donor strategies and tailor communications accordingly
Partner with Mission and Constituent Experience teams to gather research updates, patient stories, and data for proposal and report development
Liaise with the Senior Director of Donor Communications to align materials with LLS’s donor communications strategy, editorial voice, and brand tone
