Required Experience:

The expected base salary is $325,000, plus performance bonus. Final compensation may vary based on experience, leadership capabilities, and alignment with strategic goals.

In this role, you will provide...

Strategic Financial Leadership:

Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, contributing to the development and execution of the organization’s short and long-term strategic plans.
Lead the organization’s financial strategy, including capital planning, resource allocation, investment strategy, and funding initiatives.
Provide high-level financial insights, forecasts, and scenario planning to inform strategic decisions and drive sustainable growth.
Risk Management, Treasury & External Relations:

Oversee cash flow strategy, liquidity management, and investment management and banking relationships to ensure financial stability and operational flexibility.
Lead risk mitigation strategy across areas such as foreign currency exposure, investment diversification, insurance, and contracting.
Apply and recommend enhancements to the investment policies approved by the Board of Directors, work with investment managers and advisors, and monitor and evaluate investment performance.
Manage relationships with external financial partners, including auditors, banks, and investment advisors.
Tuition and Revenue Management:

Lead revenue optimization strategies, with a primary focus on program tuition—the organization’s principal income stream. Provide executive guidance to ensure pricing strategies are aligned with long-term financial and strategic objectives. Balance competitiveness and value to ensure tuition pricing supports both enrollment goals and revenue targets.
Direct strategic inventory planning across short- and long-term horizons, working closely with cross-functional teams to manage program capacity and scheduling. Oversee the governance process for “go/no-go” decisions on program departures, ensuring they are financially sound and operationally viable based on data-driven performance metrics.
Ensure effective use of data analytics to generate and deliver accurate reports, identify trends and support the coordination with the Marketing Analytics and Inventory Management teams to ensure the development of campaigns that drive growth in program revenue and enrollment.
Steer the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function through all budget and forecasting cycles, ensuring rigorous financial modeling, variance analysis, and scenario planning. Provide executive direction on the development of financial reports, performance dashboards, and strategic insights that inform decision-making at the highest levels of the organization.
Organizational Oversight & Governance:

Provide executive oversight of all financial and accounting functions, ensuring they are executed effectively by a strong internal team.
Maintain accountability for financial performance and integrity, including internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
Oversee vendor contracting function and vendor relationships, ensuring competitive contract rates and compliance with Road Scholar’s contractual terms.
Partner with Human Resources and Operations to support compensation planning, international payroll strategy, and resource modeling.
Oversee compliance with the many U.S. regulatory requirements of a non-profit organization operating internationally.
Qualifications we're seeking...

15+ years of senior financial leadership experience, not-for-profit experience a plus.
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
Demonstrated ability to drive strategic financial planning and resource alignment at an organizational level.
Proven success in guiding financial governance, investment oversight, and risk management in complex or international environments.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and collaborate internally and externally, with investment managers, bankers, attorneys and members of the Board finance and audit committees.

About the role...

Road Scholar is seeking an experienced, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial strategy and steward the organization’s long-term fiscal health. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will serve as a key member of the executive team- managing financial policy, contributing to strategy decisions, and aligning resources to advance Road Scholar’s mission and goals. Backed by a highly capable finance and analytics team of approximately 50 individuals, the CFO will lead the organization’s financial strategy and risk management, collaborating with senior leaders to ensure financial controls, policies and priorities are integrated across business operations.
