Required Experience: Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, with at least seven years in a nonprofit organization and leadership position Proven track record of successful financial management, including experience developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance At least five years performing and overseeing federal grants management. More extensive experience a plus Strong leadership and management skills with experience building and leading high-performing teams Five to eight years of supervisory experience of financial and administrative teams Demonstrated collaborative leadership approach, aligning business and people strategy as well as cross-departmental goals Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders Demonstrated experience supporting, training, and working effectively with diverse teams Demonstrated experience working with HR, Operations, IT, and Administrative teams Passion for Esperanza United’s mission and work Passionate interest in mentoring others and working as a team Bilingual English/Spanish a plus Travel requirements Travel required to Esperanza United’s main office in St. Paul, MN with some additional conference and meeting travel. The CFOO is the lead financial and operations position for Esperanza United and is responsible for managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring our financial health and sustainability. The CFOO oversees all financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance requirements. A key responsibility is to ensure we accurately track all government awards and all grants and complete all drawdowns on a timely basis. The CFOO also oversees the Administrative, Compliance, Human Resources, and Information Technology departments to implement strategy, ensure alignment, and provide support across teams. Formerly Casa de Esperanza, Esperanza United was founded in 1982 by a small group of persevering Latinas as an emergency shelter in St. Paul, Minnesota. Key responsibilities Financial management Develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and other financial systems Ensure all financial information related to government grants and re-granting project(s) from reviews to drawdowns to follow up is accurate and timely Prepare and present financial reports to the President & CEO, the Finance Committee, and Board of Directors, providing analysis and recommendations as needed Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, audits, and other reporting requirements Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers and key government agencies and major funders as appropriate and as requested by the executive leadership team Budgeting and forecasting Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with the executive team, program managers and other stakeholders to develop realistic and achievable budgets Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the President & CEO, key staff, and Board of Directors Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support long-term financial planning and decision-making Strategic planning and leadership Work closely with the President & CEO and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans and goals that support the organization’s mission and vision Lead the Finance Committee, collaborating with the Board Treasurer and other committee members, to provide strategic financial guidance and support the organization Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development Team management Supervise and develop operational teams, including Administrative and Information Technology teams Guide and assist on troubleshooting operational and staff performance challenges Deploy resources efficiently and effectively to meet organizational goals, working with staff to balance workload and efforts Implement yearly staff development plans Operations Oversee and update the organization’s operational safety management, protocols, and compliance practices Oversee the development, maintenance, and updates of operational policies and procedures Work with the executive leadership team and other management staff to ensure that all areas of the organization work collaboratively and have the resources and support needed to manage their work areas effectively and efficiently Establish annual work plans process and ensure integration is aligned with other areas of the organization as needed Human resources Oversee the Human Resources team in collaboration with the Human Resources Director to ensure a trusting, inclusive, dynamic, and productive organizational culture and work environment Engage and strategize with the Human Resources Director to maintain and innovate processes, policies, training and development, performance management, cost optimization and benefit renewal and administration throughout the entire employee life cycle Partner with Human Resources Director to maintain state and federal employment law practices, compliance, and minimize legal risk; maintain ethical workplace practices; and foster a culture of integrity and inclusion Ensure collaboration between Finance and HR to align departmental goals, leverage cross-functional expertise, and drive optimal results in both areas |
