National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a 132-year-old Jewish feminist civil rights organization working for equity and justice for women, children, and families in the United States and Israel. With 250,000 grassroots advocates and 45 local sections, we combine education, direct service, and advocacy to create lasting social change.

We approach our work through a Jewish, gender, economic, and racial justice lens, centering those most impacted. Our deep partnerships across progressive, faith-based, and governmental spaces reflect our intersectional values.

NCJW is at a transformational moment, guided by a bold new strategic plan. Our audacious goal: engage one million changemakers nationwide to improve the lives of women, children, and families. To reach that goal, NCJW is making important adjustments to its structure, strategy and staffing. This role is a part of that vision.

Position Summary:

NCJW seeks a bold and visionary Vice President of Finance and Administration (VP) to join the Executive Team. The VP will oversee Finance, IT, People and Culture, and Operations, ensuring these core functions drive NCJW’s mission and long-term sustainability.

As a strategic partner to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board of Directors, the CFAO will oversee financial health, operational excellence, and organizational growth. Key responsibilities include oversight and direction of financial forecasting, risk management, technology modernization, HR systems, audit oversight, and investment strategies. With the implementation of NCJW’s new strategic plan, this is a unique opportunity to design and elevate the systems and structures that power NCJW’s mission and to help advance the rights of women, children, and families in the United States and Israel.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented leader who leverages finance, technology, and administration as supporting our organization, engineering change as necessary, while maintaining the trust of our members, constituents and funders. The VP will initially oversee a team of four, with the opportunity to expand to seven. This position reports to the CEO and is based in Washington, DC with in-office expectations of two days per week, at minimum.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Management and Strategy

Oversee NCJW’s financial operations, including annual budgeting, multi-year forecasting, cash flow, investments, and financial reporting, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and compliance with nonprofit standards.
Provide timely reports on financial, IT, people and culture functions to department heads and regular updates to the Board, Executive Team, and Finance Committee, advising these groups and other staff empowering their informed decision-making and fiscal responsibility.
Manage banking and investment relationships, reserve policies, and liquidity to ensure efficient asset use and long-term sustainability. Lead audit oversight, tax and compliance reporting, and drive improvements in financial reporting and internal controls.
Develop and oversee systems for consultant contracts and payments, ensuring accountability and timeliness, driving relationships with external auditors, investment advisors, and banking business partners.
Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend strategies to support sustainable growth and organizational success.
Department Leadership and Management

Directly manage senior staff and consultants overseeing Finance, IT, People and Culture, and Office Administration, fostering a cohesive leadership team and ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
Ensure each team member has the skills, resources, and collaborative support needed to meet their goals and contribute effectively across the organization.
Guide performance management, professional development, and succession planning efforts to strengthen leadership capacity and staff growth within the departments.
Manage and support the Director of People and Culture to ensure NCJW attracts, develops, and retains top talent, while aligning strategies with organizational goals and ensuring compliance in performance management, benefits, compensation, and workplace culture.
Risk Management and Compliance

Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, technological, and human resource risks to the organization.
Oversee the preparation of office-wide policies and procedures and update as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard the organization.
Strategic Operational and Financial Leadership

Develop and execute NCJW’s financial strategy to support organizational goals, strategic plan, growth, and mission — while coordinating support for lay leaders accessing funds through NCJW’s field network.
Assess and oversee organization’s IT and digital infrastructure and consultants, managing systems, policies, and practices related to software applications, network infrastructure, cybersecurity, data management, and IT support.
Oversee financial reporting, compliance, and budget management for grants, sponsorships, and donations, ensuring alignment with NCJW guidelines and funder requirements.
Partner with the CEO and the Executive Team to develop short-term and long-term financial goals and objectives.
Provide strategic advice to the board and appropriate committees on financial matters, including potential revenue-generating opportunities and cost-saving strategies.
