Full job description
About the Organization

Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) reimagines a just society that values the purpose of every child impacted by mass incarceration and removes barriers to create opportunities for children to thrive and achieve their full potential. CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty, and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system.

CPNYC has developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co locates a licensed mental health clinic and children's centers in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides a range of youth development programs and services tailored to each child's strengths and challenges and fosters an uplifting environment that cultivates hope and resilience.

Position Overview

The Director of Development and Communications leads fundraising and communication efforts to elevate the organization’s visibility, engagement, and revenue. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity during a time of dynamic growth and increased impact.

We are seeking a visionary, self-directed nonprofit leader to engage individual donors corporations, and foundations while partnering with a skilled communications team to expand the organization’s reach and narrative. The Director will oversee fundraising strategies and campaigns, manage communications platforms, and lead the Development & Communications (DevoComms) team. They will also work closely with the PR Firm to elevate the organization’s public profile and leverage community partnerships.

The ideal candidate will build relationships across sectors, activate networks in criminal justice reform and equity, and design opportunities to increase the visibility of CPNYC’s model through events, storytelling, and advocacy.

Are You the Leader We're Looking For?

You might be the perfect fit if you are a bold, mission-aligned development professional who:

Is both a strategic thinker and action-oriented doer—able to see the big picture while executing effectively.
Brings an entrepreneurial spirit and thrives in fast-paced, high-impact environments where innovation is constant.
Is data- and KPI-driven, using performance metrics to align strategy, enhance operations, and meet fundraising goals.
Finds purpose in fundraising for equity-driven, community-based organizations.
Cares deeply about New York City’s children and families, especially in Brooklyn and the Bronx, and understands that your leadership directly influences outcomes in these communities.
Leads with emotional intelligence and builds trust through integrity, empathy, and results.
Is a strong and inspiring communicator, capable of storytelling that moves people to action.
Believes in disrupting systemic inequities through collaborative partnerships and collective action.
Celebrates wins—you run around the office with excitement when a grant is secured, a volunteer signs on, or a new board member joins.
Seeks a role that blends career growth with service leadership and are ready to partner with a visionary founder and board to co-lead the next phase of impact.
If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you—ASAP.
