About the Role

The Vice President of Advancement serves as a strategic leader within IM Houston's Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Advancement team, driving organizational growth through comprehensive fundraising, relationship management, and the ongoing development of core mission driven initiatives. This role combines external relationship building with internal program oversight to advance interfaith relations, community engagement, and volunteer mobilization efforts.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development

Serve as a key ambassador for IM Houston's programs and services throughout the Greater Houston community, especially faith communities and other entities
Provide strategic direction for expanding organizational capacity in interfaith relations and community engagement
Support the strategic growth of Volunteer Houston through targeted fundraising and partnership development
Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to align advancement efforts with organizational priorities
Fundraising & Development

Manage a diversified portfolio of donors including individuals, major donors, corporations, foundations, and congregations
Lead prospect identification and cultivation strategies to expand the donor base
Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising campaigns specifically designed to increase capacity for interfaith and community engagement initiatives
Create compelling funding proposals that articulate the impact and value of IM Houston's interfaith and community programs
Establish annual revenue goals and metrics for interfaith relations and community engagement funding streams
Government & Community Relations

Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government officials, elected representatives, and public sector partners
Represent IM Houston at community forums, coalition meetings, and civic engagement opportunities
Navigate policy landscapes that impact interfaith cooperation and community development initiatives
Build bridges between IM Houston's programs and municipal, county, and state-level priorities
Program Oversight & Management

Provide direct supervision and strategic guidance to two program officers:
Program Officer for Interfaith Relations
Program Officer for Community Engagement
Ensure program officers have adequate resources and support to achieve their respective program goals
Foster collaboration between interfaith and community engagement initiatives to maximize impact
Monitor program outcomes and effectiveness to inform fundraising narratives and donor stewardship
Volunteer Houston Integration

Develop funding strategies to enhance Volunteer Houston's capacity and reach
Identify opportunities to leverage volunteer engagement for broader community impact
Create sustainable revenue streams that support volunteer recruitment, training, and program expansion
Align Volunteer Houston growth initiatives with overall organizational advancement goals

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Bachelor’s degree is required. Advanced degree is preferred.
At least five to seven years of related progressive experience in a nonprofit setting.
Experience in public speaking in a variety of settings.
Proven track record in nonprofit fundraising and donor relationship management
Experience with government relations and community partnership development
Strong understanding of interfaith dynamics and community engagement strategies
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop program staff
Excellent communication and ambassadorial skills
Strategic thinking with operational execution capabilities
Genuine commitment to the mission of IM.
Intentionally open and thoughtful in working with those from a variety of faith traditions.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment and multicultural setting.
Strong management skills, grounded in respect and accountability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an elevated level of attention to detail; proficiency in English required.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments to efficiently accomplish duties.
Ability to work evening and weekend events.
Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile liability insurance.
