DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION AND INSTITUTE

Simi Valley, CA | Washington D.C. | Remote

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is the sole nonprofit organization created by President Reagan charged with advancing his legacy and principles – individual liberty, economic opportunity, freedom and democracy, peace through strength, and national pride.

A globally recognized nonpartisan organization based in Simi Valley, CA, with a leading policy institute in Washington, DC, RRPFI delivers impactful public affairs programming, policy convenings and projects of national and international significance, scholarly initiatives, and distinctive educational programming shaping the perspectives of middle, high school, and college students. In addition, RRPFI sustains the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, the largest and most visited presidential library. A leading cultural institution, RRPFI houses a remarkable 125,000 square foot museum with unique historical pieces that tells the story of Ronald Reagan’s life, presidency, and enduring impact, and houses world-class special exhibitions. More information is available at www.reaganfoundation.org

With views all the way to the Pacific Ocean and an hour from Los Angeles International Airport, RRPFI’s Simi Valley campus sits on 400 acres atop a hill, serves as the final resting place of America’s 40th President and former First Lady Nancy Reagan, displays a chunk of the Berlin Wall, and houses (among other remarkable displayed hardware) the plane President Reagan flew on as Air Force One to 26 countries. Also onsite are the Reagan Center for Public Affairs, the Presidential Learning Center, the Air Force One Pavilion, and the Reagan Leadership Center.

Position Available

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) is seeking a Director of Development (DoD). Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the DoD will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic development plan to substantially increase major and planned gifts from individuals as well as corporate and foundation. The DoD will be instrumental in donor relations and cultivating strategic relationships to ensure RRPFI’s long-term financial sustainability and growth. This position will be based out of the Foundation’s offices in Simi Valley, CA or Washington, DC. Consideration will be made for exceptional candidates who are remotely based, but they will be required to travel regularly to meet with and engage donors in targeted regions important to the Foundation.

Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to other duties that may be assigned in the future, the DoD will have the following responsibilities:

Major and Planned Gifts (90%):

· Work closely with the CDO, developing, implementing, and managing on an ongoing basis a proactive and effective major and planned gifts strategy and program including all activities relating to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual major and planned gift prospects in the Eastern U.S.

· Personally manage and grow a portfolio (approximately 125-150) of major and planned gift prospects in the six to seven figure range; closing 12-20 gifts annually, 3-5 per quarter.

· Develop a strategy and implementation program to expand significantly the prospect pool utilizing effective donor identification and acquisition techniques.

· Develop and communicate thoughtful proposals and cases for support aligning RRPFI and donor priorities.

· Identify, cultivate and solicit corporate and foundation partners to support RRPFI’s mission.

· Meet with program staff and other departments to cultivate their role in development and activities and establish strong working relationships within the RRPFI community.

· Maintain appropriate systems for donor tracking, activity monitoring, and metrics to ensure that cultivation and solicitation strategies are successfully implemented and goals are met. Provide regular reports and analysis to leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts.

· Represent the RRPFI at on-site and off-site events with donors and potential donors.

· Participate in weekly prospect review meetings and brief CDO on prospect development.

General (10%):

Demonstrate behaviors in concert with the Foundation’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Adhere to the highest ethical standards and strict confidentiality policies in handling donor information.
Build and maintain positive working relationships and communications with all Foundation constituencies.
Actively participate as a member of the Development team; attend department and all-staff meetings and events; support the organization’s overall fundraising efforts.
· Assist with events and other programs and activities of the Board of Trustees, CEO and CDO relating to the mission and activities of the RRPFI.

· Support the CDO and other Foundation leadership in the ongoing implementation of the RRPFI’s campaigns.

· Assume responsibility for reaching assigned fundraising and activity goals (during specific campaign periods both the dollar amount and number of gifts will be adjusted to obtain the fundraising goal established by the Board of Trustees).

· Participate in the preparation of and attend marque convenings of The Reagan Foundation and Institute.
