Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required
Minimum of seven years in a revenue generation/revenue production environment with an understanding of customer and/or donor relationship development, including management of such a function; fundraising experience with emphasis on annual campaign preferred; experience with planned giving or major gifts is beneficial.
Proven ability to recruit, lead, motivate and work with dynamic team to meet and exceed goals.
Significant experience with staff supervision and management; supervision and management of volunteers is preferred.
Advanced MS Office skills and CRM systems; knowledge of fundraising software and its application is preferred.
Knowledge of the Midlands community, particularly from a philanthropic/charitable giving perspective.
Knowledge of United Way national resource development practices preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY
The United Way of the Midlands was established in Columbia in 1925. We provide critical health and human service needs in Calhoun, Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry, Richland, and Orangeburg Counties. With a mission to unite people and resources to improve the quality of life in the Midlands, United Way of the Midlands focuses on helping provide a strong safety net, space for non-profit collaboration, and pathways to resiliency.
The Vice President/Chief Development Officer serves as a member of the senior leadership team and oversees all donor activity for the organization. This position reports to the President and CEO and manages the Resource Development Department. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs that expand current and build new individual and corporate donor relationships. Key initiatives include, but are not limited to, the annual campaign, individual philanthropy, volunteerism, and special initiatives that support the mission of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets vision and direction for individual and corporate philanthropy for United Way of the Midlands. Establishes data-driven, measurable goals and oversees strategies to achieve or exceed these goals.
Consistently and proactively seeks out new and innovative ways to engage individual, corporate and workplace donors.
Directs a team focused on philanthropy through a variety of lenses. Provides coaching, mentorship, and identifies professional development opportunities for this dynamic team.
Engages Board members to be ambassadors for UWM’s fundraising efforts; educates volunteer leaders and committees to understand and advocate for UWM’s impactful work.
Ensures there is a process and accountability in place for maintaining donor and prospect records. Lead the team in analyzing donor data to improve workplace campaigns and individual giving.
Advances organizational and staff development with major gifts, planned gifts, leadership giving and generation segmentation marketing to ensure the future of the organization's fundraising efforts.
Works with the UWM Community Impact team to identify and solicit sources of revenue for specific programs and/or initiatives.
Stays abreast of resource development trends, giving patterns and best practices; is the subject matter expert for the organization and guides the RD team and UWM in implementing best practices as appropriate for this community, its needs and our donors.
Manages a small number of significant accounts.
Is a visible leader in the community; represents UWM as a credible and passionate expert at local, regional and national meetings.
