SUMMARY: The Chief Philanthropy Officer is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that increases philanthropic revenue and expands the donor base. This relationship-centered leadership role oversees the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate donors, building meaningful, long-term partnerships that advance the mission of CFC.
As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Chief Philanthropy Officer collaborates closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and fundraising consultants on high-impact strategic initiatives. The role also provides direct supervision to four team members and plays a critical role in shaping the organization’s philanthropy efforts at the highest level.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND TASKS:
Leads all philanthropic revenue efforts in alignment with the comprehensive philanthropy plan, including major, planned, and annual giving; special events; grants (federal, state, county); corporate partnerships; and capital campaigns.
Cultivates and manages a portfolio of individual and corporate donors with immediate $50K+ giving capacity and transformational gift potential.
Oversee a cross-departmental process to identify and secure multi-million-dollar grant opportunities through relationship-building and compelling proposal development.
Provides leadership to the Marketing & Communications team to develop donor-centric messaging, materials, and media that inspire giving and broaden support.
Engages the Board of Directors, including Board Leadership and Development & Communications Council, to increase fundraising participation and achieve shared fundraising goals.
Plans and executes two signature annual events.
Supports the CEO in donor engagement efforts, including meeting preparation, speechwriting, and identifying high impact giving opportunities.
Supervises and mentors the fundraising team, providing strategic guidance, performance feedback, and professional development.
Oversee volunteer initiatives, supply drives, the Community Council (affinity group), and collaborative projects with corporate and nonprofit partners.
Collaborate with the Program Leadership Team to ensure fundraising strategies align with programmatic priorities.
Produces fundraising reports for the Board and CEO and ensures data integrity in partnership with the finance team.
Performs other related duties as assigned, including participating in agency and community planning initiatives.
PREFERENCES:
Bachelor’s degree; CFRE, MSW, or Master’s in a related field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business Administration) preferred.
10+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector, with a comprehensive understanding of diversified fundraising strategies.
Five years of direct experience in major gifts fundraising, including personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of $50K and more.
Proven success overseeing or in writing, securing, and reporting on federal grants; capital campaign experience preferred.
Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, and manage donor relationships.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including persuasive proposal writing.
Skilled in CRM systems (preferably Raiser’s Edge), Microsoft Office, and Adobe Suite.
Familiarity with marketing principles and strategies, ideally gained through collaboration with nonprofit marketing teams.
Experienced leader with the ability to manage staff and work effectively with diverse stakeholders including board members, high-net-worth individuals, corporate executives, and program staff.
High energy, adaptable, and detail-oriented, with a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
Strong skills in partnership development and event planning.
