Required Experience:
Skills
Bachelor’s degree and 3 to 5 years experience in a fundraising capacity within the non-profit sector with a proven record of success in securing major, planned and annual giving.
Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required:
the stages of the donor development cycle,
ethics,
motivations for giving and volunteering,
research and cultivation practices,
standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and
development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents and other written materials such as governmental rules and regulations, procedural materials, financial planning agreements, contracts, estate and trust literature, and other documents.
Strong communication skills to speak effectively with potential donors, financial advisors. and fraternal groups.
Strong reasoning and problem solving ability.
Ability to manage own workload.
Ability to manage deadlines.
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
Knowledge of legal and tax matters relative to charitable contributions and fundraising.
Familiarity with computer systems is necessary.
Must maintain a Driver’s License valid in Missouri.
Must be bondable.

Job Overview
The Development Officer plays a crucial role in driving the fundraising efforts of our organization by successfully building and advancing relationships to secure financial support. The Development Officer will travel frequently, identifying potential donors and managing current donors.
Duties
Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, corporations, and organizations for major and planned gifts.
Secure financial support by building and advancing relationships with current and prospective donors.
Nurture donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition.
Encourage donor participation in the donor recognition programs: the Truman Club, the Vincil Society, and the Legacy Society.
Develop and maintain relationships with local Masonic Lodges and Eastern Star Chapters to enhance annual fundraising.
Develop compelling proposals for submission to individuals, corporations, foundations, and donor advisors to secure major and planned gifts.
Operate fundraising software to identify, research, and track interaction with current and prospective donors.
Maintain detailed records of all contacts made and the results or anticipated results of the same. Provide call log or similar report as requested.
Help establish performance measures, monitor results, and help the management team evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development program.
Travel on a regular basis; work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Attend and participate in donor events.
Oversee Square and Compasses Courtyard paver fundraising efforts. Work with donors on stone selection, engraving wishes, and payment. Coordinate with Accounting Department for purchasing.
Complete, submit, and maintain all paperwork associated with State and Federal Employee Campaign.
Assist in the strategic planning, production, organization, and distribution of written materials including appeals, acknowledgement letters, giving brochures and other correspondence, and proposal and campaign materials.
Prepare reports as requested.
Assist with the creation of the annual revenue and expense budget, adhering to the development expense budget and meeting the goals set within the revenue budget.
Collaborate with the Communications, Finance, and management teams.
Actively participate in Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
