Required
· 3 years Nonprofit Leadership Experience, Public Administration, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field
· Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit organization, with at least 3 years in an executive or senior management role
· Proven track record in successful fundraising, including grant writing and major donor cultivation
· Deep knowledge of mental health issues, public systems, and the policy landscape
· Exceptional communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
· Experience working effectively with a Board of Trustees
Preferred
· BA in a related health care discipline
· Experience with state-level legislative advocacy and lobbying
· Lived experience with mental health conditions, either personally or as a family member
· Experience managing a statewide organization or network with local chapters/affiliates
· Budget management experience of $1M+

About NAMI NJ
NAMI NJ is the state's leading grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Our statewide affiliate is composed of local NAMI affiliates and members. We provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental health conditions can build better lives.
Position Overview:
The CEO is the key management leader of NAMI NJ, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. The CEO is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, fundraising, and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include marketing, community outreach, and representing the organization to stakeholders, the media, and families and communities experiencing mental illness.
Key Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
· Defining, socializing, and delivering the strategic goals and objectives of the organization in partnership with the Board
· Provide visionary leadership to staff, volunteers, and local affiliates
· Ensure a culturally competent and inclusive environment that reflects the diverse communities served
Fundraising & Financial Management
· Align NAMI NJ’s finances with strategic goals
· Define and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including grants, individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and special events
· Maintain and diversify revenue streams to ensure financial health and sustainability
· Deliver the annual budget and present monthly financial reports to the Board; ensure sound fiscal management
Advocacy & Public Policy
· Lead NAMI NJ on mental health policy advocacy, lobbying state legislators and government agencies to advance NAMI's policy priorities
· Advance strong relationships with coalition partners, government officials, and other key stakeholders
Program Oversight
· Initiate program initiatives that further advance NAMI NJ’s mission in support of the mental health community
· Ensure the effective delivery and evaluation of all NAMI signature programs (e.g., NAMI Basics, Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer) across the state
· Support the development and growth of local NAMI affiliates
Board Relations
· Serve as a trusted partner with the Board of Trustees to seek and facilitate advancement of policy decisions that improve the organization's ability to meet the needs of the NAMI NJ mental health community
· Support Board recruitment and development
