Required Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Three to five years of professional experience coordinating fund-raising or community events.
Substantive experience supervising staff and volunteers.
Very strong organizational and analytical skills.
Strong leadership skills: ability to motivate people and inspire confidence.
Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring detailed work plans for events and other relevant activities.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid AZ Driver’s License and a driving record that will be supported by our liability insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field or combination of education and relevant experience necessary to perform job duties.
Proficiency in fundraising CRMs or donor database management systems.
Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving, Major Gifts and stewardship functions.
Strong written and oral communication abilities. Produce compelling and donor-centric communications and articulate impact to supporters
Creative thinker with ability to take events to the next level.
Excellent writing and editing skills and phone communication skills.
Experience with budgeting and budget management for events.
Experience with marketing and media relations.
Excellent speaking and public presentation abilities.
Experience in and commitment to team approach both within an organizational division and throughout an organization.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Operating in a professional office environment requires the ability to sit for long periods of time with intermittent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing. Requires the ability to use standard office equipment such as scanners, computers, keyboards, phones, shredders, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Requires travelling on occasion as needed between SAAF campuses and other locations including venues for Events.

Scope of Work: The Associate Director of Development performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities related to the organization's donor relations and fundraising activities. This position will work closely with the Chief Development Officer to plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive fundraising strategies. This individual will be responsible for managing a portfolio of major donors, cultivating corporate and foundation partnerships, overseeing individual giving campaigns, and special events & volunteer management. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of donor engagement, cultivation and stewardship, and a strong commitment to health equity and LGBTQ+ rights.
This position is a full-time exempt position.
Functional Responsibilities:
Strategic Fundraising & Donor Relations
Responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major and planned giving donors.
Build and manage a portfolio of at least 100 individuals with the capacity to make major and/or planned gifts.
Develop annual fundraising goals and objectives in partnership with the Chief Development Officer. Assist in co-creating a development plan to include donor acquisition strategies, donor cultivation and stewardship.
Assist in implementing the organization’s strategic plan initiatives as they pertain to the development department.
Lead the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit (AZTC) Campaign and Giving Tuesday campaigns.
Lead and grow recurring/monthly giving program.
Lead direct mail fundraising campaigns and appeals, including but not limited to content development, coordination across marketing platforms for release.
Assist in planning fundraising activities and direct the daily implementation of fundraising strategies.
Special Events
Oversee budgeting, direction, coordination, and implementation of SAAF's two annual signature events, AIDSWALK & Out Brunch.
Ensure successful coordination of all other 3rd party special events.
Track event participation, donations, demographics, and other pertinent data to ensure goals are met and capture historical data for planning future events.
Solicit bids and award contracts for events and other activities within the position's responsibility.
Identify and solicit prospective event underwriters.
Manage event staff and distribution of work to ensure successful event production.
Attend community events to network with prospective donors or cultivate potential agency collaborations.
Conduct research on fundraising events to enhance effectiveness of SAAF’s events.
Institutional Giving
Cultivate and steward relationships with foundations and corporations.
Research prospective institutional donors and align them with funding opportunities.
Marketing
Develop case for support marketing materials and work with outside designers and consultants to promote them through direct marketing campaigns (mail, email, social media, and public relations.)
Assist with updating and publishing the organization's newsletter, website, and promotional material.
Team & Operational Management
Supervise Development staff including performance management and professional development.
Monitor budgets, donor data, and performance metrics to inform strategy.
Ensure integrity of CRM data (Bloomerang) and support the use of donor analytics.
Assist in developing proposals and reports in coordination with program and finance teams.
Participate in monthly staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision with the CDO.
Attends, and where appropriate, all relevant meetings, and event-related committees.
Provides leadership to event steering committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports to the Chief Development Officer.
