Preferred: Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and/or in the arts, culture, or nonprofit sector.
Preferred: Understanding of the art world, the role of museums, and the specific needs and challenges of art museum fundraising.
Work Environment:

Location: Typically based at the museum, with occasional travel for donor meetings and events.
Work Hours: Regular hours with flexibility for evening and weekend events as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$105,000 annually.
A competitive benefits package, including medical and dental insurance (HMO and PPO options), vision, life insurance, and Aflac options will be offered. After six months employees are eligible to participate in the 401 (k) plan. We also offer vacation pay, generous paid holidays, and paid sick leave, as well as free membership in the Museum.

The Palm Springs Art Museum (PSAM) is an 87-year-old institution in the exciting early stages of a new chapter in its evolution. PSAM is committed to being an institution that is both rigorous and community-oriented, committed to both artistic excellence and widespread participation. The museum’s operations and programing support its vision of being an inclusive, 21st-century museum. As the largest cultural institution in the Coachella Valley (Riverside County), the museum aims to foster a widespread sense of belonging among the diverse communities of a region home to both great wealth and enormous economic disparity.

Position Summary

The Major Gifts Officer will play a critical role in a small and ambitious development department. Working in tandem with the Director of Development, this position will play an integral role in the museum's fundraising strategy, focusing on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. The major gifs officer will be responsible for donor acquisition, retention, and upgrades for a portfolio of approximately 150 households with annual giving levels starting at $5,000. This position reports directly to the Director of Development and works closely with senior museum leadership, the development team, and key volunteers to build relationships and increase revenue from major donors in support of the museum’s mission and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Donor Cultivation and Relationship Management:

Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective major donors.
Identify and prioritize new major gift prospects and work to move them through the donor engagement cycle (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship).
Maintain an active portfolio of donors and prospects, meeting regularly with individuals to deepen relationships and gain financial commitments.
Major Gift Solicitation:

Lead and manage the solicitation process for major gifts, including drafting proposals, presenting gift opportunities, and closing gifts.
Collaborate with senior staff and board members on strategy for major gift solicitations.
Work with donors to understand their philanthropic goals and align them with the museum’s needs.
Strategic Planning:

Collaborate with the development team to create and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy, aligned with the museum's goals and priorities.
Develop personalized solicitation strategies for each donor in the portfolio.
Provide insight into fundraising trends and donor behavior to enhance the museum's approach to major gift fundraising.
Stewardship and Recognition:

Ensure that major donors are properly acknowledged for their contributions, ensuring they feel valued and engaged with the museum.
Organize events, tours, and experiences for major donors to deepen their connection to the museum’s work.
Monitor and report on the progress of major gifts and ensure timely follow-up and reporting on how funds are used.
Collaboration and Teamwork:

Work closely with the museum’s leadership, curatorial and program staff, and trustees to create compelling case statements for major gift opportunities.
Coordinate with the marketing and communications teams to develop materials that appeal to high-level donors.
Participate in development meetings and contribute to strategic discussions.
Data Management and Reporting:

Track and report on all major gift activity ensuring that goals and metrics are met.
Utilize the museum’s donor management software to maintain accurate records and ensure timely follow-up.
