COMMITMENT

While the role can primarily be conducted during normal business hours, on occasion the ED role requires flexible work hours including early mornings, nights and weekends to perform job duties. As the public face of LEAP, attendance at functions and activities is expected. It is expected that the ED (1) will be based from and work on site at LEAP’s Salem (MA) location, (2) is an active member of the North Shore and Boston communities, personally and professionally, and (3) lives within a reasonable distance of LEAP’s home office.

LEAP offers a strong starting base salary, competitive benefits package, and a team-oriented atmosphere that is both positive and rewarding. The compensation range for this position is $125K - $160K. At the end of each fiscal year, the Board of Directors will assess an annual performance bonus for the ED which would be contingent upon the organization's financial resources and upon the accomplishment of strategic and operational goals pre-defined by ED and the Board. Any approved ED bonus is tied to a corresponding equitable bonus distribution for eligible staff, reinforcing our commitment to collective organizational success.

About LEAP for Education (LEAP)

Mission Statement:LEAP for Education supports youth in their personal, educational, and career growth by partnering with the community to increase opportunities and advance equity.

Vision Statement:A world where all youth have quality education, resources, and allies to navigate a path to a successful career and economic mobility.

With career success and social and economic mobility as its North Star, LEAP provides a pipeline of afterschool and summer programs for 575 youth per year who are historically underrepresented in higher education and the workforce. Youth, who are 79% low income, 76% first generation to college and 32% English language learners, participate in these programs from 6th grade to completion of a college degree or other postsecondary credential.

Middle school students engage in project-based, career-connected learning. In high school the focus shifts to work-based learning, career mentoring and post-secondary and college advising. All postsecondary students who opt-in get assigned an advisor until they graduate. LEAP is the only program on the North Shore offering a continuum of structured programs from 6th grade through postsecondary graduation that are focused on building 21st century and workplace skills to ensure career success.

LEAP students enroll in postsecondary education at 2x the state average for low income students and graduate at 3x the state average.

Job Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) leads LEAP for Education. The ED is the organization’s visionary leader and chief revenue officer, responsible for achieving transformative impact by implementing the strategic vision and plan. The ED works to attract increased levels of philanthropic support, earned income and government support. The ED is responsible for achieving programmatic excellence, sustaining the organization’s culture, creating business and strategic plans, and overseeing day-to-day activities. The ED empowers the dedicated LEAP staff to ensure the business is operating efficiently and effectively to realize its short-term and long-term programmatic goals. The position requires a dynamic, mission-driven leader who is visible at LEAP and in the community. The ED should foster an excellent working relationship with the staff and Board of Directors as well as any working teams that support LEAP's mission, vision, and values. In this full-time, exempt position, the ED reports directly to the Board of Directors.

GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Organization Mission, Strategy and Leadership: Works with Board and staff to ensure that the Mission, Vision, and Values are fulfilled and that the programmatic goals are achieved. The ED:

Is responsible for achieving LEAP’s vision, fulfilling the organization’s mission, and developing and implementing LEAP’s strategic and business plans to ensure that the organization successfully creates the transformative change desired to positively impact the lives of the students participating in the organization’s programs.
Is responsible for enhancing LEAP’s image by working closely with the business, civic, philanthropic, government, and social service sectors whose roles are critical to the organization’s success.
Serves as LEAP’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the general public.
Upholds the organization’s culture and values.
2) Fiscal Sustainability and Viability: Attract and manage the financial resources necessary to ensure the financial health of the organization. The ED:

Achieves philanthropic goals and leverages philanthropic support by cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individuals, families, corporations, and foundations as partners and investors in the LEAP.
Builds relationships internally and externally to deepen existing connections and engagement in order to inspire new levels of participation and satisfaction.
Secures government support and grants where appropriate to advance the organization’s programmatic goals.
Creates organizational sustainability by attracting multi-year investments, capitalizing growth goals and building the organization’s reserves and endowment.
Develops an executable annual operating budget in partnership with the finance staff, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors; oversees financial matters including long-term budgeting, ongoing financial performance, risk management and financial strategy.
Guides and oversees organization’s performance, using financial statements and business dashboards; the ED must remain flexible, making necessary changes to ensure financial integrity and sustainability.
3) Board Governance: Works with Board of Directors in order to fulfill the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The ED:

In partnership with the Board of Directors, recruits, onboards, manages and inspires Board member engagement to support achievement of the organization’s goals.
Engages the Board in the development of the LEAP’s strategic vision and leverages each Board member as a thought partner and contributor in realizing the organization’s vision.
Works with each of the Board’s Sub-Committees to advance the goals of the organization.
Communicates effectively with Board leadership to help inform key business decisions.
In partnership with the Board Chair, prepares and helps manage productive Board meetings to engage the Board in the organization’s strategic priorities.
Acts as the primary liaison between the Board and staff.
4) Organization Operations: Oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations. In partnership with staff leadership, the ED:

Recruits, trains, manages and inspires a dynamic staff team to successfully build and implement the organization’s business plans.
Counsels and coaches the senior management team for success; respects, encourages, empowers, and celebrates the talents of that team while also holding each accountable to mutually agreed-upon goals.
Oversees the effective administration of LEAP’s operations.
Ensures a positive working environment and an organizational culture that stands as the model for all other employers to emulate.
Establishes employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of LEAP. Reviews and approves contracts for services.
Has primary responsibility for communications regarding LEAP’s mission, values, programs, challenges, and achievements.
Effectively manages any crisis that might arise using superior decision-making skills, in consultation with Board leadership and senior staff.
