Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education Administration, Public
Administration, or related experience required

Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in school
operations.

Experience in charter school operations or K–8 education environment strongly
preferred.

Experience in charter school charter approval or renewal.
Experience in managing charter school budgeting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong financial acumen and experience with multi-million-dollar budgets.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement efficient operational systems.
Knowledge of state and federal education laws, charter compliance, and school funding
structures.

Proven leadership skills with ability to manage teams, resolve conflicts, and foster a
positive work culture.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Chief Operating Officer

Guilford Preparatory Academy (K–8 Charter School)

Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Guilford Preparatory Academy serves as the executive officer of the school, responsible for the overall leadership, vision, and strategic direction of the Academy. The COO ensures the school delivers on its mission to provide an excellent, student-centered education within a safe, supportive, and innovative learning environment. Working under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Chief Operating Officer oversees academic leadership, operations, finance, compliance, and community engagement, serving as the face of the school to families, staff, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

Provide visionary leadership to advance the mission, goals, and values of Guilford
Preparatory Academy.

Partner with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and monitor strategic plans
that ensure long-term sustainability and academic excellence.

Serve as the primary liaison to the Board, providing timely reports, data, and
recommendations.

Academic Excellence

Ensure high-quality academic programming that aligns with state standards, charter
requirements, and best practices in K–8 education.

Support and evaluate leadership team in fostering teacher development, instructional
excellence, and student achievement.

Drive data-informed decision-making to monitor student outcomes and close
achievement gaps.

Operations & Finance

Oversee schoolwide operations including facilities, safety, human resources, and
technology infrastructure.

Partner with the operations team to ensure efficient systems and processes.
Provide fiscal stewardship of the school’s budget, grants, and resources, ensuring
financial sustainability and compliance with state and federal funding requirements.

Ensure timely and accurate reporting to state and charter authorizers.
Compliance & Accountability

Ensure the school complies with all charter, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Prepare for and respond to audits, charter renewals, and accountability reviews.
Maintain high standards of transparency and integrity in all school practices.
Talent Management & Culture

Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing staff across instructional and operational
roles.

Cultivate a culture of collaboration, equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Model and uphold a leadership style that empowers staff, builds capacity, and prioritizes
the needs of students and families.

Family & Community Engagement

Serve as the school’s ambassador to students, families, community partners, and
stakeholders.

Foster strong partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and higher education
institutions to expand opportunities for students.

Ensure communication systems that keep families informed, engaged, and valued as
partners in student success.

Fundraising & Development

Lead fundraising, grant development, and donor engagement efforts to support school
initiatives and growth.

Work with the Board to expand resources and partnerships that enhance the school’s
impact.
