Full job description
NPower is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities in the technology sector for those who have traditionally faced barriers to entry. We provide free, comprehensive tech training programs for young adults and military-connected individuals from low-to-moderate income communities.
We have offered foundational, intermediate and advanced career training opportunities to over 12,000 graduates, with the goal of scaling to serve 15,000 annually by 2030 while maintaining strong placement outcomes. Led by a committed team, we seek to create a tech workforce that mirrors the world around us and empowers students to drive change in their own lives and communities.
Npower-SkillBridge program
The NPower SkillBridge Program is a Department of Defense–approved initiative that provides active-duty service members with a seamless transition into the civilian workforce through hands-on training in technology and professional development. Offered in partnership with NPower, a national nonprofit focused on advancing digital careers for underserved populations, the program allows participants to complete their final months of military service while gaining industry-recognized IT and cybersecurity certifications, mentorship, and direct access to employment opportunities with leading corporate and government partners. By combining technical skill-building with career readiness and job placement support, NPower’s SkillBridge program empowers transitioning service members to launch meaningful, sustainable careers in the growing tech sector. In three years, the program graduated over 500.
Position Summary
The ED of SkillBridge serves transitioning service members by training and placing them into tech jobs in accordance with tenets and regulations of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. This is a nationwide role and requires oversight and management of up to five independent NPower SkillBridge sites with five to six staff members per site and located at or near military installations throughout the country.
Responsibilities
Provide NPower services to transitioning military personnel through the SkillBridge program. Specifically:
Identify military installations and geographies that yield the highest volume of transitioning service members in most opportunistic regions across the country.
Gather market data related to high-demand and emerging tech corridors with critical mass of in-demand jobs for transitioning military personnel.
Develop timelines, expansion sequences and critical success factors and evaluation frameworks
Launch a series of regional SkillBridge programs nationwide and scale the program utilizing virtual training, in person instruction and a hybrid model to best address each environment.
Achieve a 100% enrollment and 90% certification and job placement rates for all cohorts subsequent to initial regional pilot programs.
Build high performing teams and instill in the NPower culture in order to develop expertise, manage program benchmarks (retention, certification, and placement) including fundraising capacity that align with NPower goals and outcomes.
Partner with National Instructors Institute (NII) on program models that include duration, curriculum, certification offerings, and learning pathways that align with capabilities of transitioning service members.
Raise operational funds to sustain the financial obligations of the program estimated at $5M over a three-year period.
Identify and cultivate relationships with key senior military leaders, base commanders and those who can approve Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Guardians and Coast Guardsmen for SKillBridge programs. Also engage Community, Government, and Employment partners that will support and champion our SkillBridge status while amplifying Power’s presence on-base and in the surrounding communities to promote the brand and create job placement opportunities.
Achieve programmatic success of the NPower SkillBridge program nationwide. Supported by national and regional staff members, attain benchmark results for recruitment, training, certification, and job placement of transitioning service personnel. Additionally, the ED, SkillBridge, will cultivate a Regional Advisory Board; recruit and retain highly qualified staff members, and build productive partnerships with corporations, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations nationwide.
