Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 120,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. I. MAJOR FUNCTION: The Deputy Chief Operating Officer (Deputy COO) is also the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accountability (IDEA) Officer at the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering a culture of results, continuous learning, and accountability. In alignment with NASW’s new strategic vision and its commitment to IDEA, the Deputy COO will ensure that inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability are embedded in all aspects of NASW’s operations, programs, and culture. This role is responsible for all aspects of Association membership functions, including membership services, member recruitment and retention, and engagement of members in all Association activities. Responsibilities will include growing revenues for the Association by identifying, prioritizing, and acquiring new and retaining current members in the Association. The Deputy COO will also lead the integration and application of Results Based Accountability (RBA) principles to ensure that all strategies, programs, and initiatives are data-driven, outcome-focused, and continuously improved for maximum impact. The Deputy COO will work with membership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, equitable programs and member services across NASW's 54 chapters, aligning local initiatives with national goals. II. BASIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Champion and operationalize NASW’s new strategic vision, ensuring that all operational plans, programs, and initiatives are aligned with the organization’s long-term direction, priorities, IDEA principles, and Results Based Accountability (RBA) frameworks. Serve as NASW’s IDEA Officer. Collaborate with the COO to develop and execute operational strategies, plans, and procedures that prioritize results-based outcomes, continuous improvement, RBA, and IDEA principles. Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with NASW’s strategic goals and mission. Directs needs assessment and develop objectives, goals, strategies and measurements for member initiatives that will increase NASW's membership, enhance member engagement and contribute to overall revenue goals. Play a pivotal role in the strategic planning process, embedding results-based management, RBA, and IDEA principles, and fostering a culture of learning and inclusion throughout the organization. Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services with a strong focus on results, evidence-based practices, RBA, and equitable access and outcomes. Utilize RBA-aligned metrics to track program performance and outcomes. Leads a team of membership services professionals who are responsible for implementing all membership services and coordination activities in the Association, including core member services, membership retention and engagement, new member prospects and member communication activities. Provide leadership to ensure the delivery of consistently high-quality, equitable programs and member services at the chapter level, with a focus on results, RBA, IDEA, and continuous improvement. Conduct chapter visits to understand local challenges and opportunities, fostering partnerships, collaboration, learning, RBA, and IDEA. Oversee the submission and consolidation of chapter budgets for approval by the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, ensuring alignment with results-based, RBA, and equitable financial practices. Develop programs and initiatives that drive revenue opportunities at the chapter level, with a focus on results, continuous learning, RBA, and IDEA. Develop and implement operating policies, practices, and procedures for the Chapter Operations division, embedding results-based management, RBA, IDEA, and continuous learning. Oversee the delivery of communications and services to chapters, including training, communications, membership rosters, and multi-chapter meetings, with a focus on results, impact, RBA, and IDEA. Ensure compliance with Association Bylaws, Chapter charters, and operational policies and procedures, while promoting a culture of learning, adaptation, and inclusion. Collaborate closely with the COO in managing the budget and financial planning of relevant departments, ensuring responsible allocation and utilization of resources with a focus on results, sustainability, RBA, and equity. Oversee financial performance, ensuring that financial decisions are informed by data, aligned with the organization's strategic, RBA, and IDEA goals. III. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The Deputy COO will work directly with the Chief Operating Officer (COO). In addition, this role will work closely with Chapter Operations staff, Chapter Executive Directors and other Chapter staff, Communications, and other departments within NASW. The Deputy COO will represent NASW in external meetings, conferences, and forums, advocating for the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to results, learning, RBA, and IDEA. |
