EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent experience Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience managing and executive media, digital, and marketing campaign plans and managing teams KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must be passionate for building more resilient, sustainable, and racially just communities in the RGV. Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and coordinate multiple projects and events simultaneously. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to write and speak fluently in both Spanish and English. Must have experience in legislative / advocacy activities Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to analyze and synthesize complex information. Must be able to work collaboratively and facilitate teams. Must be familiar with the history and mission of LUPE and be willing to make a long-term commitment to the organization. Must be proficient with Microsoft® Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook / Outlook Express, Internet Explorer), Google docs, web-based task or project management tools, social media platforms and familiarity with editing and maintaining websites. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be fluent in both Spanish and English. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Requires a valid Class “C” Driver’s License. This role manages and directs LUPE’s media, digital, and marketing strategy to promote the organization's campaigns, services, and membership throughout the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. The Director of Communications plans, develops, and implements communications strategies to effectively disseminate LUPE’s core narrative and motivate and mobilize members to be active participants in the organization’s programs, services, and campaigns. LUPE has a sister organization, LUPE Votes, a separate but related, nonprofit organization exempting federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although LUPE and LUPE Votes share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Rio Grande Valley and nationally, they are separate organizations with their own boards of directors and a set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This does not affect salary or benefits. To reach this objective, the Director of Communications performs the following key responsibilities: RELATIONSHIP BUILDING Foster interdepartmental relationship to develop and implement movement building communication framework. Work with the Organizers to develop & implement strategies for LUPE Comites and other related organizing work. Exemplify advocacy campaigns through mass media and social media platforms while working in partnership with other staff to achieve campaign and organizational goals. Ensure polished and quality communications activity on all social media platforms, press releases, and LUPE materials. Support the Movement Building Division in developing and implementing community leader development and training sessions. COMMUNICATIONS Create and maintain communication strategies for internal and external audiences. Serve as LUPE’s central communication liaison for all activities, ensuring timely and professional communications with relevant stakeholders and partner organizations. Support the Communications Coordinator in message development and strategy development. Oversee all media relations activities, including the writing and distribution of media releases and securing optimal earned media of LUPE’s advocacy campaigns. Coordinate efforts with the Communications team to enhance the work of community organizing and civic engagement and respond to issues affecting LUPE members in a timely manner through various communications channels and strategies Work with the Communications team to elevate community leaders and members in our communications efforts Oversee and develop LUPE’s digital organizing strategies to engage members and the community at-large Oversee and develop LUPE’s marketing strategies to promote our membership services, increase member engagement and retention, and welcome new members Overseeing LUPE’s website and social media accounts to ensure they align with established brand and communication guidelines. Review and provide input on marketing materials to align with communication strategy including digital campaigns, print materials, social media, audio and video. Prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other communication materials for organizational representatives. Stay informed on social justice trends, news, and relevant discussions, ensuring the organization remains proactive in its communication efforts. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Conducting crisis management procedures and communicating them to employees. Work with the Administration to recruit, hire, and provide orientation and evaluation to full-time, part-time and temporary staff, interns, and volunteers for the Communications Department. Ensure orientation and onboarding occurs for new hires. Ensure timesheets for staff under direct supervision are submitted on time. Coordinates staff developmental needs and makes recommendations to the Human Resources Generalist for appropriate professional development opportunities for staff Assist staff as needed in a program for optimal use of technology. Facilitate training as needed for program completion . Conduct periodic evaluation of daily operations of staff under supervision. Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate Communications Department meetings. Provide direct supervision and administrative support to Communications staff Foster a positive work environment, promoting employee engagement, growth, and development. Create quarterly/periodic outcome-based evaluations for departmental programs that includes but is not limited to, outputs of events with geographical and demographic information, and recommendations Model and implement based on data-driven decision making expertise. Oversee budgeting and financial planning processes to ensure optimal resource allocation and cost management. Track and monitor all expenditures as it pertains to the department budget. Create biannual narrative reports with data analysis, and review and provide feedback on program budget as needed. Collaborate with HR to facilitate recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes, ensuring the acquisition of top talent to support the organization's growth.
