Experience & Education
Minimum 7-9 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional fundraising, including a significant portion at the Director level.
Proven track record securing and managing multi-million-dollar funding from private foundations and government or multilateral donors.
Experience with international organizations or programs (e.g., education, policy, arts/culture, civil society, or economic development). Prior experience fundraising for an organization with international programming is essential, as is knowledge of and experience with grant makers supporting international work. Familiarity with political and cultural environment of Asia highly preferable. International experience and/or foreign language skills a plus.
Experience with government (NYS, NYC and federal proposals) highly desirable. Experience building or significantly expanding an institutional giving function or unit.
Professional, courteous and friendly. Experience and interest in working in a multicultural environment.
Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Affairs, Public Policy, Nonprofit Management, Education, Area Studies, etc.) strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree required.

Summary
Asia Society seeks an experienced and highly motivated Director of Institutional Giving & Partnerships to lead our institutional fundraising strategy with private foundations, government agencies, and multilateral organizations. This role requires a self-starter who is comfortable engaging senior foundation officers and government officials, successfully working both independently and as a team member to create and implement fundraising strategies that reach ambitious financial goals. Building on a successful and mature institutional giving program generating approximately $5M+ annually, this role will serve as lead strategist and front-line fundraiser for institutional support. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience managing complex, multi-year grants and will work closely with the Managing Director of Philanthropy, Chief Development Officer, and Asia Society's senior leadership team to position the organization as the premier partner for building bridges of understanding between Asia and the world.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
Lead the overall strategy for institutional giving (foundations, government, and multilaterals) in alignment with Asia Society's strategic priorities.
Refine and expand the institutional relations function within the Development department, identifying new revenue streams and high-potential prospects.
Develop annual and multi-year revenue targets and plans for institutional giving; monitor progress and adjust strategy as needed.
Serve as a senior thought partner to leadership on positioning Asia Society with key institutional donors.
Fundraising & Portfolio Management
Maintain and grow a high-level portfolio of foundation and government partners, with responsibility for securing multi-year, multi-million-dollar support.
Lead proactive business development to secure first-time awards from major private foundations, government agencies, and multilaterals.
Oversee the full grants lifecycle—from prospect research and cultivation through proposal development, award negotiation, reporting, and renewal.
Ensure timely and accurate stewardship of grants, maintaining a strong pipeline of renewals and new opportunities.
Proposal Development, Reporting & Communications
Lead the development of high-quality concept notes, letters of inquiry, and complex, multi-faceted proposals in collaboration with program, finance, and leadership teams.
Oversee preparation of compelling narrative and financial reports for donors, ensuring compliance with all funder requirements.
Translate complex programmatic and policy content into clear, persuasive written materials tailored to sophisticated institutional audiences.
Maintain consistent, high-quality documentation and communication that strengthens Asia Society's reputation with institutional donors.
Internal & External Collaboration
Work closely with program teams (policy, arts & culture, education, etc.) to identify fundable opportunities and shape program designs responsive to donor priorities.
Coordinate with Asia Society's global Centers as needed to develop multi-country and multi-partner proposals.
Partner with finance and program operations to develop accurate budgets, track grant spending, and ensure compliance with donor regulations.
Represent Asia Society in meetings, briefings, and site visits with institutional funders and partners.
Team Management, Administration & Systems
Supervise one staff and/or consultant supporting institutional giving (e.g., grants manager, writer, development associate as applicable).
Strengthen internal grants management systems, including tracking deadlines, deliverables, and donor communications in the CRM.
Develop and implement best practices in institutional stewardship, donor cultivation events, and knowledge management.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
