Full job description
Since 1996, To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation has granted funding to Bay Area organizations that assist breast cancer patients with emphasis targeting underserved communities and families. Programs funded include emergency and financial assistance, direct and navigational services, diagnostic testing, support groups and complementary holistic therapies. Patients are supported through all phases of their breast cancer journey from diagnosis to treatment and healing.

We are seeking a mission-oriented, strategic leader to serve as our first Executive Director. Reporting to our Board of Directors, this critical role will work with volunteers and community organizations to ensure our continued success and growth in support of breast cancer patients throughout Northern California.

Job Focus

1) Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision.

Responsible for leading in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors.
Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board, providing strategic counsel, and delivering, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
Responsible for board development: recruitment, onboarding and succession planning; ensuring critical knowledge is documented
Partners with the board on carrying out the vision, developing and implementing a Strategic Plan.
2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

Responsible for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support mission, collaborating with the Fund Development Chair.
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization, to include submission to the Board a proposed annual budget, created in collaboration with the Treasurer.
Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

Responsible for implementation of programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that the organization can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
Responsible for the enhancement of the brand, reputation, and image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
Serves as the lead in fund development strategies, goals, platforms and priorities.
4) Organization Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

Responsible for the recruitment, supervision, and retention of competent, qualified contractors, if required.
Responsible for effective administration of operations.
Responsible for signing notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization, as required.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Collaborates closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
Recruit board members, as necessary, to ensure succession planning of critical volunteer talent and leadership.
Hire, supervise, and collaborate with external contractors, as needed.
Lead strategic planning and implementation.
Develop and manage the organization’s comprehensive fundraising strategy, working closely with the Fund Development Chair to secure multiple revenue streams.
Planning and operation of annual budget, in collaboration with the Treasurer and Gala Chair.
Oversee event strategy with ROI focus
Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance the vision, mission.
Serve as primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
Direct and oversee marketing and other communications efforts, in collaboration with the Marketing/Communications Chair to ensure consistent, effective brand messaging.
Establish contractor and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit, as necessary.
Review and approve contracts for services, in collaboration with the Board.
Pay: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
