About Golden Charter Academy

The Golden Charter Academy is an innovative start-up charter school that opened in Fresno, CA in August 2021. It is a place-based, science-oriented school that emphasizes environmental stewardship, social justice, and equity. GCA has a formal partnership with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, where students utilize the zoo as a living, educational laboratory. On February 24, 2025 GCA broke ground on it's new sustainable, green facility across the street from the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. This brand new campus will be opened for the 2026-27 school year.

Job Overview
The Executive Director serves as the chief academic and operational leader of the school, providing strategic direction and executive oversight of instructional programs, school leadership, and daily operations. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Executive Director ensures that all academic and site-based systems reflect the school’s mission, meet charter and state expectations, and deliver exceptional outcomes for students. This role provides high-level leadership over the Principal and Head of School, guiding the implementation of educational programs, accountability systems, and operational excellence while maintaining strong communication with the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

Provide visionary leadership for all academic and operational functions of the school.
Directly supervise, support, and evaluate the Principal and Head of School to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Lead the implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices that drive high academic achievement.
Oversee and evaluate academic performance metrics, presenting data and progress reports to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Develop and execute plans to ensure compliance with all state, federal, and charter authorizer requirements.
Oversee daily school operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and student-centered environment.
Collaborate with the CEO to set strategic priorities, manage accountability systems, and strengthen schoolwide performance.
Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, families, and community stakeholders to advance the school’s mission.
Guide the Principal and Head of School in cultivating a positive culture for students, staff, and families.
Lead site-level budgeting and ensure responsible use of resources in alignment with fiscal goals.
Oversee recruitment, professional development, and retention of high-quality staff.
Communicate key updates, outcomes, and challenges to the CEO and Board of Directors in a transparent, data-informed manner.
Partner with the CEO on long-term planning, charter renewal, compliance reporting, and external partnerships.
Represent the school at meetings, events, and community forums as a senior organizational leader.
Model integrity, accountability, and mission-driven leadership across all areas of responsibility.
Required Skills and Abilities

Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Physical stamina sufficient to sustain light to medium physical labor for up to 8 hours, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods of time
Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school site to site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps, and to respond to emergency situations
Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 15 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift 40 or more pounds with assistance
Capacity to work in both indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions, including during outdoor field experiences if necessary.
