Required Experience:

Qualifications and Experience

- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, or a related field.- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting.- Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor stewardship.- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.- Demonstrated leadership, strategic planning, and organizational management abilities.- Experience with facilities management and event operations preferred.- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QuickBooks; experience with donor management and ticketing software is highly desirable.- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.- Valid driver’s license required.

Employment Details

- Full-time, non-exempt position; minimum of 40 hours per week.- Flexibility in scheduling is required, including evenings and weekends as needed.- Routine local travel is expected.- Salary range: $75,000–$90,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Executive Director Michigan Theatre of Jackson Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative and executive officer of the Michigan Theatre of Jackson and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees all administrative, financial, operational, fundraising, and community engagement functions to ensure the long-term artistic and financial sustainability of the Theatre. The Executive Director is responsible for implementing Board-approved policies, managing organizational resources, providing accurate financial and operational reporting, and serving as the principal representative of the Theatre to stakeholders, donors, partners, and the broader community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Oversight:- Develop, implement, and monitor annual operating and capital budgets.- Ensure accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and successful completion of audits.- Ensure appropriate use of organizational funds in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Board policies. Development and Fundraising:- Lead all fundraising and development activities, including individual giving, sponsorships, rentals, grants, and planned giving.- Cultivate, steward, and expand relationships with donors, sponsors, and funding partners.- Oversee grant research, preparation, submission, and reporting. Strategic Leadership:- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, organizational goals, and artistic vision.- Prepare and submit budgets for Theatre-produced programming and special events. Staff Management and Leadership:- Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate staff.- Foster a professional, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture. Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations:- Direct marketing and public relations strategies to promote ticket sales, memberships, rentals, and community engagement.- Serve as a public spokesperson and ambassador for the Michigan Theatre of Jackson. Operations and Facilities Management:- Oversee the management, maintenance, and security of the Theatre’s physical facility.- Ensure efficient operations related to rentals, events, and day-to-day building use. Board Relations and Governance:- Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors.- Support effective Board governance by providing timely information, recommendations, and compliance oversight. Additional Responsibilities:- Perform other duties as assigned.
