About Us: Norwescap is a 60-year-old anti-poverty organization with a mission to strengthen communities by creating opportunities that improve the lives of low-income individuals and families. Our vision is to help build a community that transforms poverty into opportunity.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established, highly respected nonprofit organization that supports over 30,000 individuals and families each year and helps create opportunities and positive change throughout Northwestern New Jersey.
The Director of Development will focus on expanding Norwescap's efforts to build relationships with and secure financial and in-kind support from a growing body of private donors, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and local clubs, churches, etc. Current initiatives include direct mail and digital campaigns; special events; private corporate and foundation grants; and partner-driven community campaigns. The Director of Development also oversees communications and marketing efforts for the organization, with a focus on developing communication and outreach strategies to acquire, engage and retain donors.
Essential Functions:
Set strategic vision and direction for fundraising campaigns, events and initiatives, including audience, messaging, KPIs, analysis and follow-up.
Work with CEO and key program staff to understand organizational needs and opportunities that may be supported by private funding, in order to build and articulate cases for support for individual donors, grant proposals, and generate report outputs.
Work with CEO and CFO to determine appropriate annual financial targets for fundraising campaigns and initiatives to support the organization's needs, with a focus on unrestricted funding wherever possible. Track progress against goals and adjust strategies as needed.
Act as liaison to, and partner with, the Board of Trustees to engage the Board in fundraising efforts, update progress on fundraising initiatives and share information regarding public events and development milestones.
Establish and maintain relationships with key supporters, including individual donors, corporate and foundation liaisons, and community leaders.
Guide strategy and messaging for all donor-facing and public-facing communications, including fundraising campaigns, e-newsletters, blogs, press releases, and social media.
Guide strategy for private grant proposals and partnership opportunities with corporations and other institutional funders.
Act as a spokesperson and ambassador for Norwescap within the community and at various internal and external events throughout the year.
Supervise personnel within the development and marketing/communications teams, including professional development, disciplinary, compensation, and hiring/firing/retention decisions.
