The Poultry Science Association (PSA) is currently searching for an Executive Director, who will assume the duties of this role on approximately July 1, 2026.
PSA is a non-profit, professional organization of scientists engaged in academic, corporate, and technical support of the poultry industries with a vision to be the world’s most respected source for the poultry sciences. This position is a full-time staff position situated at the PSA Headquarters in Champaign, Illinois.
Among other responsibilities, the Executive Director is responsible for ensuring effective implementation of Board-approved plans and initiatives. The Executive Director is ultimately accountable for safeguarding the long-term financial and operational sustainability of the Association in pursuit of its objectives, encompassing the entirety of the organization, its membership and those who benefit from its efforts.
This position reports to the PSA Board of Directors, all of whom serve on a volunteer basis. The Executive Director shall work principally with the PSA Board of Directors, PSA staff and volunteers of the Association to achieve the objectives and responsibilities outlined by the Board. Compensation is between $120,000 to $180,000, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Poultry Science Association and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and sustainability of the Association in alignment with its mission, vision, and Board-approved strategic priorities.
Leadership and Governance
Serve as the long-term public and professional “face” of PSA, providing visionary, inclusive, and ethical leadership to advance the Association’s standing as the world’s most respected source for poultry sciences.
Partner with the Board of Directors to support effective governance, provide timely and accurate information, and implement Board-approved policies, plans, and initiatives.
Support and coordinate the work of committees and volunteer leaders to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Strategic Planning and Implementation
Lead the execution of PSA’s Strategic Plan in collaboration with the Strategic Planning Committee, standing committees, and the Board.
Monitor progress toward strategic goals, assess risks and opportunities, and recommend adjustments as needed to ensure long-term organizational relevance and impact.
Financial Stewardship and Sustainability
Ensure the financial integrity, sustainability, and growth of PSA through sound fiscal management, budgeting, and long-range financial planning.
Oversee accounting, audits, investments, and financial reporting in compliance with applicable laws and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Ensure resources are effectively allocated to support Board-approved priorities and programs.
Administration and Operations
Provide oversight of all administrative, legal, contractual, and operational functions of the Association.
Ensure PSA operates in full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Oversee risk management, insurance coverage, and organizational policies to safeguard the Association’s assets and reputation.
Scientific Meetings and Conferences
Provide executive oversight of PSA’s annual meeting and other international conferences (including PSA LATAM and PSA PACRIM), ensuring scientific excellence, operational effectiveness, financial sustainability, and continuous improvement.
Support fundraising, sponsorship development, and partnerships related to conferences and meetings.
Publications and Scholarly Communication
Oversee, through PSA’s publishing partners, the production, publication, marketing, and financial performance of PSA journals, including Poultry Science® , The Journal of Applied Poultry Research® , and European Poultry Science® .
Work with the Journal Planning Committee to develop and implement strategies that ensure the long-term quality, relevance, and financial viability of PSA publications.
Science, Industry, and External Relations
Foster strong relationships with academic, industry, and governmental stakeholders within the poultry science community.
Pursue strategic collaborations with aligned scientific societies, industry organizations, and international partners to advance PSA’s mission and global influence.
Fundraising and Development
Lead fundraising and development efforts in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the PSA Foundation Committee.
Support initiatives that benefit PSA members, students, and early-career scientists, including scholarships, awards, and educational programs.
Communications and Visibility
Oversee the development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy, including digital and social media, to enhance PSA’s scientific credibility, visibility, and global reach.
Ensure consistent messaging that supports PSA’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.
Staff and Human Resources
Recruit, manage, and support PSA employees and contracted staff, as authorized by the Board.
Foster a productive, inclusive, and professional work environment that supports high performance, staff development, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
