Required Experience:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field; Master’s preferred.
7–10 years of senior nonprofit leadership experience, ideally in organizations with multi-departmental teams.
Demonstrated skill in organizational change management.
Proven success in managing leadership teams and collaborating across departments.
Strong track record in strategic planning and program development.
Successful fundraising and development experience.
Deep understanding of Veteran issues and entrepreneurial support ecosystems.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally work evenings or weekends.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt position with a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with experience. Includes health benefits, paid time off, and professional development opportunities. Salary range: $100,000 – $125,000 annually.

Vetbiz is seeking a visionary, results-oriented Executive Director to lead its mission of empowering military Veterans and their families to succeed in entrepreneurship. Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors and supported by an experienced team, the Executive Director will partner with the board on strategic direction, ensure organizational excellence, and foster innovation across all programmatic, fund development, and operational functions.
Location: Kansas City, MO, or St. Louis, MO (with regional oversight in Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Vision
Collaborate in the development of Vetbiz’s long-term strategy in partnership with the Board and senior leadership team.
Create a tactical plan with a three-year rolling horizon designed to meet the strategic goals.
Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in veteran entrepreneurship and shape the organization's response.
Maintain a focus on impact, growth, and sustainability across all program areas.
Organizational Oversight & Management
Direct and support the leadership team.
Ensure alignment and collaboration among departments and provide coaching and accountability to direct reports.
Promote a culture of high performance, innovation, and inclusion.
Fundraising & Resource Development
Oversee strategic fundraising efforts led by the Development Director, including major gifts, grants, events, and sponsorship campaigns.
Represent Vetbiz with high-level funders and cultivate relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and government stakeholders.
Advance Vetbiz Advantage scholarships and capital campaign opportunities to scale program reach.
Program Oversight & Innovation
Ensure high-impact delivery of veteran-centered entrepreneurship programs.
Champion innovation in service delivery, including hybrid models, digital platforms, and specialized offerings.
Use data and analytics to assess outcomes and inform continuous improvement.
Fiscal Management & Budgeting
Oversee and approve annual budgets with Board and Operations Director.
Ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
Monitor financial performance and forecast long-term needs.
Risk Management
Assess organizational risks and create mitigation plans.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Oversee adherence to SBA and other grant requirements.
Human Resources
Supervise Operations Director on all HR matters.
Promote equitable and compliant HR policies.
Implement a three-year staffing and capacity plan aligned with strategic goals.
Support leadership coaching and professional development.
Board Engagement & Governance
Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization.
Provide timely updates, policy guidance, and strategic input to help the Board fulfill its governance role.
Partner with the Board on leadership development, succession planning, and strategic fundraising initiatives.
External Relations & Advocacy
Act as the primary ambassador for Vetbiz in the media, at events, and in public policy forums.
Advocate for veteran entrepreneurship at the local, state, and national levels.
Build strategic partnerships with community organizations, public agencies, funders, and corporate allies.
